Textile certificates for environmental protection - Ben*s Blog

The textile industry is one of the largest industries worldwide and encompasses the production of clothing, home textiles, and technical textiles. Unfortunately, the textile industry also has a large environmental and social footprint caused by the use of toxic chemicals, excessive water consumption, and inhumane working conditions.

To address these issues and promote more sustainable and ethical textile production, there are various certification programs that target different aspects of textile production. At AMOR MARIS, I also ensure that the majority of our products are certified by the following programs:

One of the most well-known certification programs is OEKO-TEX® 100. This program aims to reduce harmful chemicals in textile products and ensure they are safe for human use. Products certified OEKO-TEX® 100 have been tested for harmful substances and meet strict limits for harmful substances.

Another certification program is Fair Wear. Fair Wear advocates for fair working conditions in textile production and works closely with brands and manufacturers to ensure that factory workers are paid fairly, have a safe working environment, and their rights are respected.

The Organic Content Standard (OCS) is another certification program aimed at promoting the use of organic cotton and other sustainable materials in textile production. Products that meet the OCS standard must contain a certain amount of certified organic materials.

Another certification program relevant to AMOR MARIS is the Global Recycled Standard (GRS). It certifies products made from recycled materials, including polyester made from recycled plastic bottles. Using recycled materials reduces the need for virgin raw materials and generates less waste.

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is a similar certification program that focuses on the entire production chain. GOTS-certified products must be made from at least 70% organically grown fibers and have strict requirements regarding chemical use, labor conditions, and compliance with environmental standards.

Finally, there's the PETA-Approved Vegan program, which focuses on the use of animal-free materials in textile production. Products bearing the PETA-Approved Vegan label do not contain animal products and have not been tested on animals.

By encouraging athletes and ocean enthusiasts to choose certified products and supporting brands committed to sustainability and social justice, we can help promote more sustainable and ethical textile production. This not only contributes to improving the environment, but also supports workers' rights and creates a fairer society.
