Hello surf friends!
The Baltic coast isn't necessarily the first destination that springs to mind when you think of surfing. But there are some great surf spots to discover along the Baltic Sea, too. Here are my top favorites for surfing:
-
Rügen is Germany's largest island and boasts many different surf spots. The most famous is probably Prora Beach, which has good waves in westerly winds. There are also surf schools and equipment rentals on the island, making it suitable for beginners. Mucran is also an insider tip. The spot rarely surfs, but when it does, it's very good.
-
Fehmarn is another island in the Baltic Sea that's also very popular with surfers. There are many different beaches here where you can surf, and it's suitable for beginners and advanced surfers alike. The best surfing spots are in the north of the island, where you can reach the spot depending on the wind direction: Altenteil, Marienleuchte, Westermarkelsdorf, Bojendorf, and many more.
-
Kühlungsborn is a tourist magnet on the Baltic Sea, which also has a lot to offer surfers. You can also enjoy good food and delicious cocktails at the small marina in the evenings. The beach here is wide and flat and protected by a stone breakwater, which can lead to good waves in northwesterly winds. There's also a surf school (Ocean Blue) with equipment rental on site.
-
Heiligendamm is another seaside resort on the Baltic Sea that also has a lot to offer surfers on some days.
-
Scharbeutz is a small town on the Baltic Sea that's very popular with surfers. There's a surf school and equipment rental here, making it attractive for beginners as well. With westerly winds, you can expect great waves here.
- Warnemünde is located just outside Rostock and, depending on the wind direction, also offers the opportunity to go surfing a few days a year. Side-onshore winds are often favorable, allowing you to ride some beautiful waves alongside the large ships passing by.
Even though the Baltic Sea doesn't have as many or as big waves as the North Sea, there are still some great surfing spots along the Baltic coast. So grab your boards and explore the Baltic Sea!
Until next time, ride on!
